Goodbye TwoThousand&Great, hello TwoThousand&Fine

There is only one sleep to go til the fat man comes and just a handful after that til we can kiss 2008 goodbye. Some of us will be sad to see it go and some of us can't wait to see the back of it. Inevitably the end of the year comes hand-in-hand with nostalgia as we reflect on what was. As such, one of the main focus points in the past few days has been looking back at the best musical releases for the year.

There are a billion lists out there but for my two cents Swedish duo Air France produced the best album of '08 with No Way Down. Misleading as their moniker may be, their ethereal medlodies are the perfect soundtrack to summer and have been on high rotation at EC HQ. It's the best album of its style since the Avalanches dropped Since I Left You in about 1835 - and that's saying something.

Here is a clip of Collapsing At Your Doorstep, one of the standout tracks on the album. It's simple yet effective and reminds us that we all need to chill out every once in a while.

New stockists!!

Whoah December has been crazy. We've got a slew of new styles that have been flying out the door like hotcakes and we've even released our first women's pieces to keep the ladies satisfied. On top of all that we've managed to link up with some of the coolist boutiques this side of eternity. In case you forgot to tell Santa that all you want for Xmas is some new Eleventh Commandment threads, you can now go out to these fine stores to get your EC fix.

CODE ORANGE
Shop 3041, Westfield Miranda, Miranda, NSW / 103 Cronulla Street, Cronulla, NSW

Stocking labels of the calibre of Ksubi, Thousand Reasons, Illionaire, Material Boy and Nudie, Code Orange has a monopoly on style when it comes to the southern suburbs. For more info hit the sweet spot here.

WHO'S YOKO
178 King Street, Newcastle, NSW

Bringing sexy back to our Novocastrian friends, Who's Yoko is a new boutique/cafe bursting at the seems with cutting edge designs from Love Thy Neighbour, St Augustine Academy, Illionaire, Vanguard and Tuesday Night Band Practice. If you're in the area a visit is a must. To find out who Yoko really is click here.

ITRIP ISKIP
30 Lonsdale street, Braddon, ACT

The pollies like to think they run Canberra but truth be told the girls at Itrip Iskip are in charge. Their rad little store has way more panache than Parliament House and is full of goodies from American Apparel, Dr Denim, Pete Versus Toby and more.

But before you race out the door to one of the above locations, check out this funky little stop-motion graff by Canberra-based artist Georgina Edwards. Nice.

A Short Love Story in Stop Motion

I woke up really early this morning. Seekae was playing on FBI and the rain was loud against my window so I didn't want to get out of bed. I turned on my computer and Steve Dubbeldam (of City of Others fame) directed me towards this video by Argentinian artist Carlos Lascano. It's a about a couple of pencil-outlined birds that escape from a little girl's drawing to lead the viewer through the life she dreams of.

A parable from the prophet Banksy

Once upon a time there was a Bear and a Bee who lived in a wood and were the best of friends. All summer long the Bee collected nectar from morning to night while the Bear lay on his back basking in the long grass.

When winter came the Bear realised he had nothing to eat and thought to himself, “I hope that Bee will share some of his honey with me”.

But the Bee was nowhere to be found – he had died from a stress-induced coronary disease.

Like Granny used to make

Remember when Grandma used to bake warm apple pie and leave it on the windowsill to cool and you could smell it while you ran around in the fields playing catch with Peggy-Sue? No? Well we didn’t grow up in cheesy Americana either but we can imagine it was pretty sweet.

But not nearly as sweet as the fresh new designs we've baked up for summer. We kicked Granny out of the kitchen and whipped them up in the oven - they’re cooling on the windowsill as we speak. Hang tight cos they’ll be in stores in just a couple of short weeks.

Meanwhile Granny has nothing to do so we’ve sent her out on the streets to kick it with the holmies. Love you Gran.

Here's looking at you, Kid

Dance-music icons and all-round studly stylecats Kid Kenobi and MC Shureshock decked themselves in EC for a recent photoshoot. Kenobi is in our black Nouveauhemian jeans while Shureshock is running with the same style in raw indigo. Shureshock has also gone with the Tree of Wife tee and Fahrenheit hoodie....well played sir.

And here is a quick snap of Kid Kenobi pondering over his morning coffee just how sexy he looks in his jeans.

Shop Deux gets props from Urban Talkabout

We'd just like to quickly give some love to Melissa and Nicole at Shop Deux. Their classy little establishment has just been identified by fashion authority Urban Talkabout as one of the hottest new boutiques in Sydney. Located on William Street in Paddington (just off Oxford Street, up from the Nudie store), they got this spiel in Urban Talkabout's October / November issue:

"Shop Deux has newly opened its doors and represents Australia’s newest talents. With everything from casual wear to high end street wear for men and women, find the freshest fashion available. Stocking - Soto Smith, Spunky Bruiser, Perspective Apparel, Yu Couture, Eleventh Commandment and Laundry Monster. 11 William Street, Paddington."

If you haven't visited Deux you should really question what you are doing with your life.

Blouse party tonight

So our friends at Blouse are putting on a party at The Cross tonight. But not just any party. The bash will be a combined effort between some of the most respected music bloggers the interweb has to offer. With the likes of Blouse, HaveJesseClub, Andy Delicious and Vivi Not Disco all taking part it'll be like when the Planeteers combine their powers, except without the environmental awareness or Captain Planet's spectacular green mullet. Get involved.

Sully on 2threads

Our buddy Nathan Sullivan was recently profiled by the good people at 2threads. While unfortunately he wasn't rocking any EC gear when they spied him, we love to see our friends acknowledged for being the stylish folk they are so we'll let him off this time. Plus he's running with a killer 50's style overcoat that he racked from his Mum...nice. And we're pretty sure she pilfered it off Humphrey Bogart.

We have no idea who the other girl is but Ruby, feel free to give us a call. We'll do lunch.

Eleventh Commandment has arrived

After months of rumours, speculation and even some downright propaganda, Eleventh Commandment made its debut at the 2008 Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival.

Eleventh Commandment is the brainchild of Henry Holland and Josh Oldfield – the same creative minds behind such former projects as Human Mannequins and the Aquaman.

Popping the cherry with our transeasonal ‘Made in Your Mind’ collection, we have scoured the moon to bring you a range of premium Japanese indigo, reverse raw and black-black denim styles that are bound to make you moist.

All the jeans in the EC denim arsenal are recognisable by the trademark eleven-line stitch on the pockets. The collection includes unisex tees, hoods and cardies with insightful designs and attributes such as double stitching around the hem to guarantee tees will never lose their shape.

Allan Sko, General Manager of BMA magazine, said, “Eleventh Commandment is the epitome of Sydney style. An unparalleled focus on achieving perfect cut and drape combined with superior fabrics and designs allow this label to be everything Australian haute couture should be striving for.”

With a wardrobe full of EC you’ll save on food costs as models will line up to feed you grapes.

Are the mirrors angry at you? EC can make them love you again.

World-famous environmentalist and naturalist David Attenborough had this to say: “The male monal pheasant impresses his female with a greater expanse of unbroken iridescence than is possessed by any other species.”

Thanks Atto, but we beg to differ.

With increasing demand for Eleventh Commandment make sure you get yours ASAP. Not only will you feel better when you look better but lets face it – we’re living in a material world and we are all material girls – consuming will make you happy.

Peace.
